T::Tate! And that was four big cats.
M:: Tommy lion and Justyn tiger, and Cody leopard and Tate cheeta started wrestling and giggling and rolling in the grass. They rolled even further and rolled into a Cougar.

"...that's why I was grumpy," said T to me on Monday as we walked to the science center. "I was grumpy because I needed more sleep," he reiterated. T told me this after I told him I was disappointed how the last hour plus had gone. It was almost eleven o'clock and we were just starting out on the walk I suggested around 9:30 am.
We're just home from a family visit to the Minute Clinic at CVS where all three of us got our flu shots. Easy peasy billed to our insurance. T was a champ. I went first, then B, then T. His face scrunched up and he thought about crying but he didn't do it. I think it was getting most uncomfortable just as it was over. Everyone made a big fuss about what big a boy he was.
As we were walking out T asked for some M&Ms for getting the shot and not crying. There was an M&M display and we let him pick out a small package. T chose dark chocolate (such a smar boy too). He got five, B got four, I got three (as determined by T.) The rest came home to be doled out for potty sitting.

Friday night as T climbed out of his chair at the dining table he said, "Look at how big I am!"

[edit] T ended up with a slight fever for two days. We kept him home on Monday.
While T was in the bath and I was cooking dinner, B asked T what his favorite part of today was. "Getting my semi at the sale and playing with mommy in the sandbox," was his reply. :-)
I was surprised about the sandbox, though perhaps he mentioned it because it was the last thing he did before coming in for the bath. I was in a persnickety mood that I wouldn't have thought was a lot of fun. I did help T make a sand tunnel, smash a fire ant, and make a (sand) cake however, and all those are fun.
We started out our day going to a consignment sale at the large Methodist church downtown. I'd wanted to get there at opening but I woke up about 10 minutes before it opened (T had woken at 6:30 calling for B. B and he slept in the rocking chair until a bit after I got up.) When we arrived at the sale we ran into a friend. She had a stack of clothes in T's size! The dear woman had gotten bored looking for her six month old and started looking for us knowing we were on the way! Isn't that great?! Then she watched T while I finished going through his size! I owe her.
more later...
We made it just in time to latch on to the end of a parade that ended at the Children's stage, marching along with other kids being pushed and pulled in strollers and carts and tagging behind a pounding drum.
We listened to Loren Long discuss his latest book Otis and watched as he drew Otis on a pad on stage. T remained interested throughout and he was very interested in getting a book. I limited him to Otis, but he first held on tight to Toy Boat (gift hint). The line for the author was very slow and T was getting impatient, so I was happy when a zebra walked by. The zebra had hand fans (Deep South heat don't you know) and I convinced T that he should go say hi and get one. It took two trips but he finally did (he was not as far away as the picture makes it seem).
After that we wandered around the children's area. First T played with toys at Discovery Toys, then we purchased some books from Osborne Books: Your Body and Animal Stories. We wandered more and T made a book mark with the Waldorf School, then he
colored a book at a Children's Literacy project, then we got a lemonade and wandered away from the children's section. We came back to the children's section and read a cool book about some wharthogs [link to come], then listened to a story teller by the local reading house booth. We came in at the end of Brear Rabbit and T was enthralled.
Our final stop on the way home was to get a biscuit and cookie from the pastry shop/cafe. While T munched I retold a version of Annunzio that the storyteller had told us. T helped me with story and proadly told B about it when we arrived at home. A short while later he crashed and napped well.
I've been thinking about making T a superhero cape for quite a while. Last year I had one made for my nephew Max for his fourth birthday, and my sister said he LOVED it. This weekend the zoo is having Superhero weekend - something T has been excited about. I decided now was a good time to try it out.
While I should have been working I found some tutorials on the web:
- The Long Thread - Reversible Super Hero Cape
- Puking Pastilles - Super Hero Cape
- Creative Kismet - Super Fast, Super Easy Super Hero Cape
After a late dinner I started working on the cape. I used the pattern and instructions from The Long Thread, and the instructions for the emblem from Puking Pastilles. I consulted with B about what emblem to put on the cape. Although I was very interested in using the lightening bolt from The Long Thread, or some flames similar to the ones on T's flame shoes, I ended up doing a simple T. While it is a little crooked on the blue side, I am fairly happy with it. On this emblem I used some silver lame along with the blue satin. I also used super sparkley thread.
I finished late and posted to Facebook:
Just finished cleaning up and making T's superhero cape for Superhero weekend at the zoo. Not perfect and didn't manage a lightening bolt or flames, but it is cute. Can't wait to see him play in it! (and oh I hope he does!!) Sat at 2:09am
This morning I was about to burst to see what T's reaction was. It was a little disappointing. At first he was a little shy about it - perhaps it didn't meet up to his expectations - and was quite. Then he dutifully put it on, ran, and smiled for me.
So, we had breakfast. Hot cooked millet with honey and raisins for me, fried egg on whole wheat for him.
Tonight was the big reception and it was held at the Aquarium. T and I got there before all but a very few of the attendees and toured the facilities on our own. Although I haven't been before, I think it attracts great throngs of people so it was especially special that we were there and able to view everything without the annoyance of others.
T's dinner tonight was quite an interesting one for someone his age. He had crab wantons, little tortilla cups filled with corn and other goodies, tiny pastries filled with a spicy chicken mixture (he might not have actually had this, though I had two), and duck and noodles in an wrapper. His favorite were the crab and the duck He ate three duck wrappers. I think I had three as well, though maybe I had four. It was the first duck I have ever had and I really liked the spicy mixture. T commented that there wasn't any shrimp, and joked that the duck made a quack when he swallowed it.
T ate all of these incredible hors de oeuvres with milk and followed it up with a cherry breakfast bar in the car. What a day for him! They had a birthday at school today and so also had a cupcake before I picked him up. Just as we arrived at the aquarium he told me quite seriously, "I'm not going to throw up in the building. I'm going to hold it until we get home." He smelled of frosting, but thankfully held all throwup inside.
I kept finding bits of the frosting on T's face. The reason? One of the student teachers told me that he T decided he was going to be a clown today and so covered his face and neck in the green frosting. He said he got as much of it as he could, but he was sure there was some in T's hair. I found it right at the hair line. T was quite proud of himself.
T was also very proud of himself in the car (and not just for not throwing up). My mom called while we were stuck in traffic and he didn't yell or talk while we were talking. That is until we started driving again and I hung up. "I didn't talk while you were talking on the phone!" he said quite happily. "I'm not going to do that anymore, I'm not going to bother you when you are on the phone." I must ask at school, 'cause I think there must be a story behind this.
One more thing to be proud of - he has done well with pottying this week. There was at least one accident, but he has been good about it and went without complaint at the aquarium. He did want to know what the bathroom was going to look like, and he did want me to go first so he could hear the flush, but it was all good. Yay!
[Edit: I just learned the conference paid $30,000 for this night at the aquarium!]
We have two new restaurants: a healthy place with lots of veggies, whole proteins, wheatgrass shots, and nicely raised chicken, and an earth friendly burger joint. I gave T the choice of which one to go to and he chose the veggie place. I am glad as the atmosphere was much better for us - very calming while the other we learned later is much loader and harder.
I panicked when I started perusing the menu and asking T what he would like to eat. He declined it all. I finally asked if he would like to split my meal and he said a whole hearted yes. We got a spinach rice bowl, a 1 oz wheatgrass shot, a strawberry smoothie, and bag of garlic and herb kettle chips. I had water and T had milk we brought from his school.
T ate it all and loved it all. We started with the chips as an hors de ouvres as T was hungry (they were an after thought) and then had the wheatgrass - a first for both of us. We decded we liked it, but both our mouths curled a little as we said this.
When the rest of the meal arrived and I opened the box (I got it in a to go box just in case) T said he liked the beans but wanted me to pick off all the things he didn't like. He then started to point out the rest of the meal. I said, "but here is spinach, and you like spinach." "Yes, but I only like cooked carrots and these are not cooked." I replied, "But you eat baby carrots and they aren't cooked." "They aren't?" "No." "And this is red cabbage like the one you picked out at the Farmer's Market. It is purple but they call it red cabbage." "Why do they call it red? It is purple." "Yes, it is purple, but they call it red, I really don't know why." We went on like this a little longer and then I put a small fork of rice, beans, and veggies in his mouth and he quickly wanted more.
When T declared he was full we packed up. He told me, "I need to run around a little bit mommy. Let's run down the sidewalk." So we did. Then we ran up. Then we ran to Starbucks and got a coffehouse oatmeal cookie. T had about two bites then wanted to run again. We ran down, then up, then to the water fountain where T walked around a few times. After we each threw in pennies that is. You can guess what my wish was, but I have no idea what T wished for.
Finally we got home, fed the cats, read a book, and went to sleep. A good night.
Last Friday I went to another consignment sale. The clothes in boys 3T and 4T were awful, but there were some good toys. Plastic toys however. I feel a bit sick abut it - bringing in more toys and more plastic - but then I am pretty sure T will enjoy this and will be able to enjoy it with B and I and other kids. I got him a $20 miscellaneous bunch of Hotwheels track and parts, and two more small plastic dinosaurs. The latter I hid away for a rainy day or Christmas, whichever come first, but the track we gave T when he got home from school.
While T can't really put the track together very well himself yet, he enjoyed shooting the cars down the track. I think in another couple months he'll have the dextarity to do the track. We'll hope anyway. He has been happy to have this new toy and it gave him another way to play with his cars. He has about six Matchbox cars that we have collected - mine and several I purchased last year at a sale.
Saturday morning T and I played at home (he and B also read for an hour plus while I slept - yay!) then went to the church to do some weeding around the grounds. Not so much fun, but good to do. Saturday afternoon we walked down to the toddler park for a meet and greet. Our Kindemusik instructor had a gathering at the park to get more sign-ups, collect money, say thank you, and have us attendees chat. It was a nice time. T brought his T-ball set and hit some really good balls. He also had a lot of fun playing fireman with some other boys.
Sunday afternoon, while B did stuff for his conference, T and I went to a trunk show of shoes for him then went and had frozen yogurt at a new little shop. It was quite yummy and T loved the sprinkles. Here he is posing with the 'mascot'.
